Gold, gold and more gold – City of Cambridge swimmers brought home a glittering haul of medals from the Masters County Championships, with the tiny squad of seven on the podium no less than 22 times.
Steve Buckley led the way with four golds in his four events, winning the 100m free, 50 fly, 50 free and the 100 IM.
Jutta Schikore wasn’t far behind, finishing the competition with three golds for her performance in the 100m IM, 50 breastroke and 50 fly, while Jenny Winster and Kirsty Trigg won two golds apiece, Winster for the 50 backstroke and 100 IM, and Trigg in the 100 free and 50 breast. Winster also took home three silvers for 100 free, 50 fly and 50 free, with Trigg also taking a silver for 50 free.
Helen Prentice, in her first ever masters’ meet, won medals of every colour – gold for 100 free, silver for 100IM and bronze for 50 back.
There were two silvers for Vincent Pottier in the 100 and 50 freestyle events, while Heike Templin took silver in the 50 back and bronze in the 50 free, narrowly missing out on another podium place in the 50 breastroke, touching just outside the medals in fourth place.
