City of Cambridge's Masters Swimmers continued their recent run of good form
as they collected a hat full of medals at the Diss Otters Open Meet, held in
Wymondham last weekend. The team of five swimmers collected an impressive
haul of 3 gold, 6 silver and two bronze medals.
Steve Buckley took up where he left off at the Midland District
Championships as he took the team's two individual wins, with lifetime best
performances of 29.56 and 1:08.69 for the 50m butterfly and 100m individual
medley. He also took a silver in the 50m freestyle. Jutta Shickore took a
trio of silver medals in the 50m fly and breaststroke and 100m individual
medley, a feat that was almost matched by Ruth Brown, who took two runner up
spots in the freestyle and medley events.
Meanwhile, Kirsty Trigg took her first podium finishes since returning to
the sport with two bronze medal finishes in the freestyle and breaststroke,
both in best times, and John Cochrane picked up a bronze medal in the
The team then came together to take an impressive win in the mixed freestyle
relay. Impressive swims from Shickore, Cochrane and Brown gave anchor leg
swimmer Buckley a vital lead which was maintained as the team took gold in
56.48. Earlier on the same line up had taken silver in the medley relay.
