The 30 strong Cambridge side monopolised on their home pool advantage recording a 50 point win over their nearest rivals, City of Ely, in the 5th round of the Junior Fenland League on Saturday 14th September. The team recorded 26 wins in the 45 events and a total of 17 personal best swims.
The 9 year olds almost snatched a clean sweep winning 7 of the 8 races available in this age group. Elio Tepedino led the way with 2 wins in the 50m Free and 25m Fly, recording a 3 second personal best in the freestyle. Other winners were Eloise Parton (25m Fly), Emma Lewis (50 Breast), Isabel MacIntosh (50m Back), Luke Taylor (50m Breast) and Oscar Mulligan (50m Back). Amongst the 10 year olds, our freestylers were the stars with Simon Dijkstra and Miranda Edwards who swam strongly to take clear victories.
In the 11 year old age group, a nail-biting race which saw the first 4 swimmers record the same time, Livia Brookes narrowly edged out the competition to take victory in the 50m breaststroke. Conversely, in the boys 50m breast race, George Whisken was the clear victor, with both swimmers recording personal best times on their way to first spot. Although narrowly nudged into second spot on the night, Oliver Cashin looked very strong in the 50m Fly and was rewarded with a 3 second personal best. Other winners in this age group were Jordan Bradford (50m Free) and Nicole Taylor (50m Fly). The 12 year olds set the theme for the evening securing victories in the first 2 events, the 100m Individual Medley. Seb Parton and Emma Burton both recorded huge personal bests to secure top spot in that event. Continuing in personal best form, Seb went on to win the 50m Free and Emma to clinch 2nd place in her least favoured 50m breaststroke event. Other victors in this age group were Olivia Blydenstein (50m Free) and Eleanor MacIntosh (50m Fly).
The Backstroke and Butterfly events saw a clean sweep for Cambridge in the 13 years age group, with Natasha Howard/Oliver Emsley securing maximum points in the backstroke and Nicole Bradford/Edmund Laing in the Butterfly. Susanna Fraser (50m Breast) and Bronagh Whisken (50m Free) also took top spot in personal best times.
The evening was finished as it started with the 8x25m Freestyle relay team of Simon Dijkstra, Miranda Edwards, Jordan Bradford, Grace Middleton, Seb Parton, Olivia Blydenstein, Oliver Emsley and Bronagh Whisken finishing with a clear 10m win ahead of the West Norfolk team.
Other members of the winning team were Benoit De La Sayette, Charlotte Richards, Maxim De Wildt, Charlotte Laing, Ilyas Abouelouafi and Charlotte Atkinson.
