City Swim to Record Breaking Success in Cambridgeshire County Championships

The annual Cambridgeshire County Swimming Championships took place over 3 weekends and 3 locations this month including Cambridge, Peterborough and Corby. Swimmers drawn from the 12 competitive swimming clubs across the county battled it out over 34 individual swimming events and 16 team relays.

The City of Cambridge swimming team won an outstanding 214 medals across the main heats of the competition, a massive increase on 2012’s 181. The boys’ team producing 49 County Championship wins and the girls’ team bringing in 26. In addition in the merged age group finals Cambridge won a further 70 medals.

Boys Results by Age Group

9yrs – Cameron Wolstencroft won two Freestyle medals: gold in the 200 and silver for the 50.

10yrs –George Whisken had a terrific series of races winning three golds (100 Backstroke, 100 and 200 Butterfly), 3 silvers (100 Breaststroke, 50 Butterfly and 400 Individual Medley) and 4 bronze (50 and 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley). Harvey Skellern won gold for the 50 Backstroke, two silver (50 Freestyle and 200 Breaststroke) and three bronze (50 Fly, 200 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley and 200 Backstroke).

11yrs – Evan Thomas-Mansfield won gold in two freestyle events, 50 and 100, four silver(100 and 200 Backstroke, 50 Butterfly and 100 Individual Medley) and four bronze (50 and 100 Breaststroke, 200 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley). Findlay Livingstone won gold for the 50 Breaststroke, while Matthew Titman won gold for the 50 Backstroke and two bronze (50 Butterfly and 100 Backstroke). Jake Moxham won silver for the 50 Freestyle with bronze for the 50 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle and Joshua Borrett won silver for the 1500 Freestyle.

12yrs – Jake Thomas-Mansfield was possibly the most successful individual across the whole of the County Championships with gold in each of the fourteen events he competed. He won across all four strokes including 100 and 400 Individual Medley, 50, 100 and 200 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50, 100, 200 and 400 Freestyle, 50, 100 and 200 Butterfly. Hard on his heels were Oliver Trent and Levin Graf. Oliver won the 200 Breaststroke, three silver (100 Breaststroke, 200 and 400 Individual Medley), and six bronze (50, 100 and 200 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 100 and 1500 Freestyle). Levin won four silver (50 Butterfly, 100 and 400 Freestyle and 100 Individual Medley), and two bronze (50 Freestyle and 400 Individual Medley). Edmund Laing won silver for the 50 Breaststroke.

13yrs – Charles Fynn was the medal winner in this age group with two bronze performances in the 50 Backstroke and 100 Individual Medley.

14yrs – The Cambridge boys completely dominated this age group. Sam Pedder put in some impressive swims to earn seven gold medals (100 and 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, 200, 400 and 1500 Freestyle, 100 and 200 Individual Medley) two silvers (50 Backstroke, 100 Butterfly) and three bronze (50 Butterfly, 50 and 100 Freestyle). Sol Giesler took four golds in the sprint events including the 50 and 100 Butterfly and 50 and 100 Freestyle. Sol also added silvers across three Breaststroke events, 50, 100 and 200. Tom Harrington kept Cambridge on the podium with five silvers (50 and 100 Backstroke, 50 and 100 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly) and a bronze for his 200 Individual Medley. Joshua Goncalves took the old for the 100 Breaststroke and silver in the 50 Butterfly. Angus Bean won bronze in the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley and Robert Brunton won silver for the 200 Butterfly.

15yrs – Ashley Trent won two golds (50 Butterfly, 200 Breaststroke), two silvers (50 and 100 Breaststroke) and bronze (400 Freestyle). Daniel Mills took the gold for the 100 Individual Medley, four silvers (50, 100 and 200 Freestyle, 50 Backstroke) and bronze (200 Backstroke). Bartu Atamert won bronze for the 100 Breaststroke.

16yrs – Liam Doonan continued his good form winning six gold medals (50 and 100 Backstroke, 50 Breaststroke, 50 and 100 Butterfly, 100 Individual Medley) with silver in the 200 Individual Medley and bronze in the 200 Freestyle. Boris Ledovskih won gold in the 100 Freestyle, two silver (200 Back stroke and 200 Freestyle) and bronze in the 100 Individual Medley. While Seb Pettican won gold in the 50 Freestyle, silver in the 100 Backstroke and bronze in the 50 Backstroke.

17yrs and Over – Dominic Pulford won gold for the 50 Backstroke and bronze for the 100 Individual Medley. Richard Jefferies won silver for the 200 Individual Medley and two bronze (100 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle). Liam Barnett, our Transplant Games gold medallist won two bronze for the 50 and 100 Butterfly.

Girls Results by Age Group

9yrs – Charlotte Laing and Karolina Kowalska won one gold medal each for the 50 Breaststroke and 200 Backstroke respectively. Charlotte went on to win a further two bronze for the 100 Individual Medley and 50 Breaststroke.

10yrs – Emily Semple was on fine form winning two silver (100 breaststroke, 100 Freestyle) and one bronze for the 50 Freestyle.

11yrs – Laura Hill won three bronze (50 Butterfly, 50 Backstroke, 100 Butterfly). Eleanor Macintosh won bronze for the 100 Butterfly.

12yrs – Hetti Vanterpool won silver in the 50 and 100 Freestyle with Hannah Lin winning bronze for her 400 Individual Medley.

13yrs – Emily Biggs was the most successful girl from City of Cambridge at the championships winning six gold (100 and 200 Breaststroke, 100 and 200 Individual Medley, 50 and 100 Freestyle), 4 silvers (100 Butterfly, 50 Breaststroke, 200 and 800 Freestyle) and two bronze (100 and 200 Backstroke). Millie Emmans won three Freestyle golds (200, 400 and 800) with silvers for the 100 Freestyle, 400 Individual Medley and 200 Butterfly, with bronze for the 100 Butterfly. Sophia Rodrigues swam well winning gold in the 50 Butterfly and three silvers (200 Butterfly, 200 and 400 Freestyle). Susanna Fraser won bronze for the 50 Backstroke.

14yrs – Lauren Hall won eight medals within this age group with one gold for her 100 Backstroke, 3 silvers (50 Backstroke, 200 and 400 Freestyle) and four bronze (100 Breaststroke, 100 and 200 Individual Medley, 800 Freestyle). Emily Taylor won six medals including gold for the 50 Butterfly, two silver (100 Individual Medley, 50 Freestyle) and three bronze (100 Butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 Freestyle). Rebecca Burton won two golds (100 and 200 Breaststroke) and 2 silvers (100 Butterfly and 200 Backstroke).

16yrs – Georgia Crawford won three gold (50 Backstroke, 100 and 200 Freestyle) and silver for the 50 Freestyle. Georgia Hickman won two golds (50 Breaststroke, 100 Individual Medley) silver for 100 Freestyle and bronze for the 50 Freestyle. Her sister Ellie won two bronze, 50 Breaststroke and 100 Individual Medley.

17yrs and Over – Samantha Auker dominated the Backstroke events winning gold in the 50, 100 and 200 events, she also won silver for the 200 Freestyle. Alexandra Holt won two silver medals coming in just behind Sam in the 50 and 200 Backstrokes and Sophie Lankford won three bronze for the 50 and 100 Butterfly and 50 Breaststroke.
