Winter Open 2013

Parkside Swimming Pool enjoyed a thrilling weekend of competitive swimming as City of Cambridge Swimming Club hosted our Winter Short Course ASA Level 2 Gala. With a total of 26 teams visiting teams from across 6 counties the club managed 2490 individual swims across 26 events.

The City of Cambridge team of 70 swimmers won a total of 64 medals. Top swimmers included Jake Thomas-Mansfield (12yrs) with a total of 9 medals including 3 gold (100 and 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly), silver in the 100 Backstroke and 5 bronze (200 Backstroke, 200 Butterfly, 400 Freestyle, 200 and 400 Individual Medley). Rebecca Burton (14yrs) produced her usual golden performance with four gold, (100 and 200 Breaststroke, 100 and 200 Individual Medley), silver for the 100 Butterfly and bronze in the 200 Backstroke. Jake Moxham (10yrs) was on fantastic form with three gold medals (50 and 100 Freestyle, 100 Individual Medley) and silver in the 200m Individual Medley. Matteo Zampese (16yrs & Over) won 2 gold medals (100 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley), two silver (50 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke) and bronze for the 200 Breaststroke. He then went on to impress everyone by beating the overall winner of the 50m Freestyle in the thrilling race-off competition which is the 50 Freestyle Skins. [The fastest 8 swimmers go head to head in a race-off where the slowest swimmer is dropped in each round until only one remains]. Daniel Mills (15yrs) won gold for the 200 Freestyle, two silvers (50 and 100 Freestyle) and bronze for the 100 Butterfly. Emily Semple (10yrs) took home gold for her 50 Freestyle and silver for the 100 Freestyle. Ashley Trent (15yrs) won gold for the 200 Breaststroke.

Head Coach, James Freezer commented “The swimmers from A squad that deserve a mention include Levin Graf, Susanna Fraser and Jake Thomas-Mansfield. The boys achieved their Regional Qualifying Times and Susanna improving considerably on her previous best. In top squad Sam Pedder was the stand out swimmer of the weekend having impressive swims in his 200, 400 free and 200 back”. Assistant Coach, John Sargent , added “The stand out swims from B Squad came from Emma Burton (100, 200 back, 100 Free), Emily Semple (100 Free), Jake Moxham (100 Free). All of them achieved significant personal best times only narrowly missing out on Regional Qualifying Times (RQTs). Whilst Hetti Vanterpool (100 Free and Back) and Evan Thomas-Mansfield (General), swam well improving on their RQTs and achieving further personal bests”.

Other medal winners include: Evan Thomas-Mansfield (11yrs) 2 silver (100 and 400 Freestyle), George Laing (13yrs) 2 silver (100 and 200 breaststroke), Liam Doonan (16yrs & Over) 2 silver (100 and 200 Butterfly) and bronze (200 Individual Medley), Nell Bullard (12yrs) 2 silver (100 and 400 freestyle) and bronze (50 Freestyle), Sam Pedder (14yrs) silver (400 Freestyle) and 2 bronze (100 Individual medley, 200 Freestyle), Samantha Auker (16yrs & Over) 2 silver (100 and 200 Freestyle) and bronze (100 Backstroke), Sebastian Pettican (16yrs & Over) silver (200 backstroke), George Whisken (10yrs) silver (100 Backstroke)and bronze (100 Butterfly), Harvey Skellern (10yrs) silver (50 Freestyle), Joshua Goncalves (14yrs) silver (400 Freestyle), Hetti Vanterpool (12yrs) 2 bronze (100 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle), Adam Tapley (16yrs & Over) bronze (100 Freestyle), Annie Little (16yrs & Over) bronze (100 Breaststroke), Boris Ledovskih (16yrs & Over) bronze (200 Freestyle), Eleanor Johnson (14yrs) bronze (100 Breaststroke), Hannah Lin (12yrs) bronze (400 Individual Medley), Matthew Titman (11yrs) bronze (50 Freestyle), Oliver Trent (12yrs) bronze (200 Breaststroke), Richard Jefferies (16yrs & Over) bronze (50 Freestyle), Thomas Sarah (16yrs & Over/Over) bronze (200 Butterfly).
