City of Cambridge Swimming Club started the 2012/13 season in a convincing manner with victory in the 1st round of the East Midlands Arena League. The team were really up for the event and with just six weeks of hard training under their belts since the summer break were keen to make their mark. There were many stand-out performances from the team but to select a few, Harry Robinson in the 15/U 100 Freestyle (55.96), Emily Biggs 13/U 100 Breaststroke (1.19.70), Liam Doonan Open 100 Butterfly (59.01) who had only stepped in to swim less than 2 hours prior to warm up, while Molly Ollington stepped up to go 1.02.77 in the 15/U and finally Megan Connor and Dale Waterhouse winning the Open 100 Freestyle in 59.01 and 52.73 respectively. When analysing the results it was great to see that Cambridge came away with 30 wins, 9 2nd and 5 3rd finishes out of the 50 events.Head Coach James Freezer was very pleased with the result and with the great team atmosphere on poolside. I was pleased with the strength in depth in the relays winning 12 out of a possible 16, but I know the team will have much tougher rounds ahead. We still need to improve in certain areas if we want to cement our place as one of the strongest teams in this league after such a successful run last season. There is nothing standing in the way of the result that we want except honest hard work.
Final Results, Cambridge -259, Dereham 186, Biggleswade 163, Worksop Dolphins 159, West Norfolk 141, Norwich 134.
