September 2012, Thetford: Ten years since the club’s last victory, City of Cambridge Swimming Club put in an strong team performance to win the Senior Fenland League Final. It was a very close competition, with Cambridge beating last year’s winner West Norfolk by just 10 points.

With the other competing clubs providing inconsistent results throughout the meet, Cambridge’s consistent high scoring was the key to the final result.

The final was made up of 38 individual races and 9 relays. Cambridge won two relays, the 100m Freestyle 10/U+12/U Boys and the absolute showstopper which is the 8x25m Freestyle Mixed (age and sex).

Our most prominent win came from Team Captain, Liam Doonan. Liam went under the minute barrier for the first time on the Boys Open 100m Butterfly, going 59.29 sec. This was immediately followed by Nicole Taylor, setting a personal best of 45.74 sec in the Girls 10/U 50m Breaststroke and winning in convincing fashion. Our three other wins came from our squad of Emily’s. Emily Semple won the 50m Backstroke (10/U), Emily Taylor won the 100m Butterfly (14/U) and Emily Biggs won the 100m Individual Medley (12/U).

Along with these 8 wins, Cambridge continuously fought for every point and position, notching up a total of 18 2nd places.

John Sargent, City Coach commented “With the new season only a few weeks old, the team has started on a very positive note. If the swimmers can continue to build upon this performance, the club could see yet another successful season”.
