National Arena League round 2
City of Cambridge swimmers put in a solid performance to take first place in their second round of the National Arena League ahead of Hosts Modernians swim club.
Boys Captain Richard Jefferies performed well on the night to take 1st place in Open age group 200m Individual Medley and the 100m Butterfly. Swimming in the Girls 200m Individual Medley Georgia Crawford took 3rd place. Other places for the open age group were Charlotte Begg who took 3rd in the 100m butterfly, John Sargent who took 1st in the 100m backstroke Bethan Bottomley swimming for the girls took 2nd in the same event.
Dale Waterhouse took another 1st for the age group in the 100m Freestyle Whilst Charlotte Begg took 3rd place. The only female 1st in the age group went to Annie Little who was swimming up an age group and took an impressive win in the 100m breaststroke to finish 2 seconds ahead of the second placed swimmer. In the same event for the boys Ho-On To was just touched out at the finish to place 3rd.
In the 15 and under age group Boris and Georgia shone in the 100m freestyle with both swimmers finishing in 1st place. Another 1st was achieved by, Bartu Atamert in the 100m breaststroke, Annie Little swimming the event for the second time in the event placed 2nd. In the other individual events Alex Holt took 2nd place in the 100m backstroke Boris Ledovskih swam the boy’s race and finished in 2nd. In the 100m butterfly Liam Doonan and Georgia Crawford both performed well to place 2nd in the age group. In the relays there were 1st for the boys’ team of Boris, Bartu, Liam Doonan and Seb Pettican who finished 4 seconds ahead of the pack. The girls’ team in the same event placed in 2nd with the team comprising Alex Holt Annie Little Georgia Crawford and Amy Zhang. The teams put in a solid performance in the freestyle relay with both boys and girls teams placing 2nd.
The 10 and 11 years age group put in a solid performance on the night with the best placing’s coming in the boys 50m freestyle swum by Myles Turner and the 50m breaststroke swum by Alastair Minshall who also placed 1st. 3rd places were achieved in the age group by Myles Turner and Nell Bullard and in the 150m butterfly, with a further 3rd for Nell in the 50m freestyle. In the 50m backstroke Nicole Bradford touched in 4th place and for the boys Josh Borrett took 6th. Final placing for the age group was in the girls 50m breaststroke with Hannah Lin came in in 5th place. In the relays the teams fared well with a third for the boy’s medley team of Josh Borrett, Alastair Myles and Levin Graf. The girls Medley team of Nicole Bradford Nell Bullard Hannah Lin and Sarah Brunton placed in joint second in a time of 2.40.89.
13 and under swims were completed by Rebecca Burton and Harry Robinson who took 1st places in the 100m freestyle. It was also a clean sweep in the 100m breaststroke with Katie Little and Josh Goncalves taking the honours for the club. In the other individual races Lauren Hall and Sam Pedder both touched 4th in the 100m backstroke. In the 100m butterfly Rebecca Burton was on fine form to take another 1st in at time of 1.11.19, swimming for the boys in the 100m fly Harry Robinson put in a super swim but was unlucky to be disqualified from the event. Millie Emmans, Amy Zhang, Tom Harrington and Sol Giesler, joined the swimmers for the relays with the boys and girls teams taking a clean sweep in the events with four 1st places.
It was a clean sweep in the open age group relays with Sam Auker Charlotte Begg and Bethan Bottomley touching in a time of 2.08.57 for the girls medley relay whilst the boys team of Danny Proffit, Ho-On To, Salli Belbayev and Dale Waterhouse smashing the competition to finish in a time of 1.51.02.
The final girl’s event was the ladies open 50m freestyle where the team of Sam Auker, Charlotte Begg Annie Little Beccy Burton Bethan Bottemley and Georgia Crawford placed 4 seconds ahead of the 2nd placed team.
In the final event of the night the men’s open 50m freestyle the team of Salli Belbayer, Tim Riviere, Ho-On To, Danny Proffit, John Sargent and Dale Waterhouse put in a fantastic race to touch 11 seconds ahead of the 2nd place team.
This resounding win means that City of Cambridge will go into the final round in a great position. League placings will be posted here when announced.
