City of Cambridge Swimming Club had a disappointing finish in the final of the Senior Fenland League, 2009. Cambridge went into the final as second seeds, but with strong teams fielded from Peterborough and West Norfolk ‘A’ Cambridge finished third overall.
The younger swimmers gained the top points of the evening, with Boris Ledovskih putting in a super performance to take 1sts in the 12 and under 50m backstroke and 50m freestyle, and 2nd in the 100m Individual medley. Team mate Bartu Atamert, also 12, finished first in his favoured breastroke event 50m. In the 10years and under age group Robert Brunton took 2nd and Amy Zhang a 1st in the 50m breastroke, with Robert also taking the 2nd place in the 50m butterfly. Katie Little and Alistair Minshall gained further points with 2nd places in the 10 years and under 50m backstroke.
Peter Rees swam well in the 14 and under age group taking 2nd in the 100m Individual medley and 100m freestyle, with Sophie Lankford also 14 touching second in the 100m butterfly. Other 2nd place finishes were taken in the open age group by Rachel Jones in the 100m butterfly, Fay Westwood, in the 100m freestyle and Tim Shipton also in the 100m freestyle.
With many points to be gained in the relay section, Cambridge took 2nd places in the 14 and under and open female 100m freestyle and the 10 and under and twelve and under male 100m medley relay. In the remaining relay races Cambridge took five 3rd places and two 4th places.
