Speedo League victory for Cambridge

Cambridge swimmers swept to victory in the opening round of the Speedo League, clinching top place at the weekend gala with 248 points (Saturday October 12).

The City of Cambridge Swimming Club started with a first place in the opening race – and rapidly went on to dominate, claiming top spot in half of the events and clocking up 10 personal bests.

The squad signalled their determination to better even last year’s efforts when they ended the season with a rank of 14 in the UK.

Head coach Tim Westlake said: “We’re delighted with the performance and the result. The squad performed extremely well and I have every confidence that they will be able to maintain a high level throughout this season.”

The event, held at Hitchin, saw Romford take second place with 212 points, Waltham Forest third at 187, Tring in fourth with 142. Potters Bar and Greenwich came fifth and sixth respectively with 133 and 115 points.
