First Round of the Cambridgeshire County Championships 10th & 11th March 2007

Richard Jefferies of City of Cambridge Swimming Club was invincible; smashing three county records on the way to gaining 7 gold’s in the first round of the Cambridgeshire Championships. The 11 year old reduced the 200m freestyle record by three seconds when he clocked 2.14.58. He took the 200m butterfly in 2.49.14 and his 100m individual medley time of 1.14.78 bettered a five year old record. He missed a new best in the 200m individual medley when his 2.38.89 was just half a second off and his other gold’s came in 50m freestyle 30.32, 50 backstroke 34.08 and 200m backstroke 2.32.78. Soraya Sassani 14 years was also a record breaker from the Cambridge club. She took the 100m butterfly in a new best time of 1.08.04 and narrowly missed the time with 30.92 for gold at 50m butterfly. She took gold at 200m freestyle 2.17.05 at 100m individual medley 1; 12.19and won the100m breaststroke but was touched out over 50mbreaststroke. Another 14 year old Tim Riviere was in outstanding form. He won the 100m backstroke in an East Region qualifying time of 1. 08.31 and clocked a personal best of 2; 30.66 for 200m backstroke and on the same stroke over50m he won with 31.79. He won the 200m freestyle in 2.12.00. Douglas Gordon 17 years walked off with 4 gold medals; on freestyle he recorded 26.14 for 50m, 56.52 for 100m and 2.01.06 for200m. He won 200m backstroke in 2.17.45.
Three titles went to Alice Death 12 years; she won on her favourite butterfly in 33.92 for 50m and 1.18.04 for 100m and took the 100mindividual medley in 1.17.82. Andrew Wilkinson doubled, taking the200m freestyle in 2.17.08 and 800m in 9.51.31 at 13 years level. In the same age group Georgina Roughsedge featured in six finals winning the 100m butterfly in 1.20.53 and knocking 1 ˝ minutes off her personal best with silver at 800m freestyle. Nine year old Nicola Jefferies took gold over 200m freestyle 3,00.12 and silver at 50 butterfly. Karim Ahmed was well clear at 13 years 50m freestyle in 29.49 and Helen Struthers winning in 4.51.67 for 14 years 400m freestyle was an East Region Championship qualifying time. Charlotte Haines 17 years took the 800m freestyle in 9.58.19 and Isabella Thomson winner of the 14 year 50m breaststroke was a surprising qualifier for the medley “skins”.

13 years Bryony Rowsel, 100m individual medley. Sophie Lanham 100m butterfly, Alex Garner 200m backstroke, Georgina Roughsedge 400m individual medley 200m freestyle.
14 years; Joseph Moyes 100m and 200m freestyle 50m backstroke. Isobella Thompson, 50m and 100m butterfly. Helen Struthers 800m freestyle, Amy Dive 200m breaststroke.
15 years; Catherine Mumford 50m and 100m breaststroke, 100m individual Medley, Adam Scott 5m freestyle.
16 years; Mathew Wilkinson 100mbacksroke Luke Westwod 100m and 200m individual medley 100m and 200m freestyle Adam Oakman 50m freestyle

13 years; Georgina Roughsedge 100m breaststroke 100m individual medley, Andrew Wilkinson 100m freestyle, Karim Ahmed 100mbackstroke, 100m individual medley, Sophie Lanham 50m butterfly, Bryony Rousell 100m butterfly, Holly Trees 50m breaststroke.
14 years; Victoria Way 800m freestyle Isabella Thompson 100m breaststroke , Joseph Moyes 50m freestyle 100m individual medley
15 year;s Harriet Thorp 100m individual medley , Catherine Mumford 50m butterfly, Adam Scott 100m freestyle
16 years; Adam Oakman 100m and 200m freestyle.
